I love the different markings that cats have on their heads. Some of my clients in the past have sent me some pretty adorable felines.

I also really enjoy trying to capture the light refractions inside cat eyes. Another thing I find particularly alluring about cats is the way their whiskers glisten in the sunlight. A backlit ear can take a cat portrait to the next level with ambient light.

When I have had multiple cat portraits going at the same time, even of the same breed, I can easily tell them apart because they all have adorable idiosyncrasies. One of the most important tasks I try to master with each portrait I paint is getting all those little defining details right.
